An Oliver Jeffers Birthday Cake

Last week my son celebrated his 2nd birthday and somewhere in amongst the chaos of getting our house ready to go on the market and the general every day hustle and bustle, I found time to make him a cake.

I never do anything by half (if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well right?) and having turned my hand to celebration cakes as a hobby a couple of years back it was a no-brainer he'd be getting the full works!
We're big Oliver Jeffers fans in our house, his beautifully illustrated books appeal to both adults and children. They're bold, bright and there's something sweetly naive about them so I chose key elements from his book 'How To Catch A Star' (also Reuben's favourite) as the subject.

After 5 days of intensive cake building, this was the finished product-a 9" round chocolate truffle torte cake with chocolate buttercream. Delightful, don't you think?
